Fortress began trading on the main board of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) on October 22, 2009, initially established as a property loan stock company. Its inaugural market capitalization of R1.8 billion made it the most substantial initial listing in the entire listed property sector at that time. On July 1, 2013, Fortress transitioned its structure to become a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). The company operates as a hybrid fund, strategically investing in both directly owned real estate assets and securities of other listed property entities and REITs. A core focus for Fortress is the development of high-quality logistics properties, alongside ongoing investment in its retail portfolio. Currently, its diverse portfolio encompasses industrial, logistics, office, retail, and other property segments.
